Marquise Boarding Axe for sale is 24 inches in all. The design of the Marquise Boarding Axe is inspired by a naval boarding axe that was called the Hache du Bord or Hache Abordage. The original axe had French origins and was similar to popular medieval Swedish axes. This contemporary replica features a hand forged steel axe head. The hardwood shaft has a dark black stain. The axe head measures 10 inches from the blade to the rear spike. To protect against splitting or breaking, the axe head is secured to the wooden shaft with long thin strips of metal called langets. The Marquise Boarding Axe features an extra langet which serves dual purposes. As both belt or baldric hook and as a defensive shield against a cutlass thrust to the wood.
